Nicaragua is the perfect place to explore remote, off grid places, where social distancing can easily be practiced. Nature reserves offer great outdoor opportunities, providing authentic and meaningful experiences for travelers.
Our favorite natural place that really fits with our travel philosophy of taking care of biodiversity, putting people first, no mass tourism, and creating safe, sustainable experiences is the UCA Miraflor Reserve.
Miraflor is a unique natural reserve, located approximately 30 kilometers from the city of Estelí, in northern Nicaragua. In addition to its exceptional biodiversity, Miraflor is made up of 12 multi-sectoral cooperatives that promote entrepreneurial initiatives in agribusiness, community ecotourism, as well as social and environmental projects. They are committed to generational change, gender equity and environmental protection.
Visitors can stay in rural family lodging, waking up to the sunrise and birds singing, share meals with local families, participate in coffee cultivation, hike through the lush vegetation with a local guide that will teach visitors about the flora and fauna of the region, among other activities.
