COFFEE HARVEST

Matagalpa and Jinotega are the most important coffee regions in Nicaragua, where more than half of this crop is cultivated.

The cultivation of coffee has been a tradition around this area since the end of the XIX century when mostly German immigrants, encouraged by the Nicaraguan government at that time, were motivated to grow coffee. Its high mountains allow the growth of high quality coffee in perfect weather conditions.

The town of Matagalpa is also home to an interesting coffee museum where visitors can learn more about the history of coffee in Matagalpa, as well as the way coffee is grown, harvested, and processed.

Coffee Farms:

There are several coffee farms in the region offering lodging and guided visits to teach about the interesting process of coffee production, such as handpicking, drying, sorting, roasting and packing.
