TISEY ESTANZUELA RESERVE

About six kilometers away from Estelí, the Tisey Estanzuela Nature Reserve, attracts a number of visitors owing to its many natural attractions to choose from.

Located in the mountainous region, lookout points provide visitors with the best views in the area. On clear days you can admire most of the Pacific region, the volcanic chain from Cosiguina volcano all the way to Lake Managua and the steep cone of Momotombo as well as the Estelí valley.

Within the Reserve you will find the well-preserved tropical forest with flourishing flora and fauna. Hiking through the forest, thick with vegetation, allows visitors to immerse themselves in the natural world. Handcrafted souvenirs and agricultural products are also highlights of the reserve.

Highlights of the Tisey Estanzuela Reserve:

  • Don Alberto’s Sculptures, El Jalacate – “The Stone Man”, Don Alberto, a hermit who has dedicated his life to carving amazing sculptures out of his mountain-side home.

  • La Garnacha – At the local community of La Garnacha you can visit the cheese factory and the plant nursery where they cultivate medicinal plants for homemade traditional remedies.

  • The Estanzuela Waterfall – This gushing waterfall offers the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim.
